Course Overview:
This hands-on, one-day training course (8.45 am – 3.30 pm) equips tutors, teachers and parents with the tools and strategies they need to support students who face challenges with traditional Literacy Intervention.
Using the Literacy Support Kit (LSK) as the foundation, participants will explore a highly structured, step-by-step intervention program designed to scaffold learning, build automaticity, and boost student confidence. The resources and activities we cover can also be used to supplement standard intervention programs.
The day combines expert insights, practical application, and real-world case studies to help attendees leave with a clear plan for implementation.
Who Should Attend?
This course is ideal for tutors, teachers and parents who support young or severely struggling readers and writers, particularly those living with dyslexia, dysgraphia, or other learning difficulties that impact literacy.

Introduction: Understanding the Learners
- Gain a deeper understanding of the challenges students face when living with dyslexia, dysgraphia, working memory deficits, and slow processing speed.
- Explore how these difficulties intersect with literacy learning and the importance of evidence-based, structured intervention.
- Understand the emotional and cognitive toll on struggling learners and how to create an encouraging, supportive learning environment.
- Understand why some students struggle with standard intervention programs.
Session 1: LSK – Step-by-Step Guide to Success
- Learn the structure and sequence of the Literacy Support Kit (LSK) and how its systematic approach supports struggling students.
- Step-by-step exploration of LSK resources, including practical demonstrations of key tools such as worksheets, handwriting templates, and spelling drills.
- Understand how the Word Cracking Resources (WCR) can be integrated seamlessly into LSK to teach morphological awareness in context.
- Insights on teaching foundational skills for long-term literacy success, from phonics and handwriting to early morphology.
Session 2: Case Studies – Real-World Application
- Dive into case studies to see the LSK in action across a variety of learner profiles.
- Learn how to personalise interventions based on student needs and progress.
- Participate in group discussions and planning exercises to practice creating tailored literacy plans.
Session 3: SMART Spelling – A Complementary Approach
- Explore how the SMART Spelling method complements LSK, providing additional tools for tackling tricky spelling patterns.
- Learn how to integrate SMART Spelling’s systematic approach into your intervention framework.
- Understand how to balance phonics, morphology, and spelling strategies to meet individual student needs.
Session 4: Interactive Q&A and Planning Workshop
- Open floor for participants to ask questions, share challenges, and brainstorm solutions.
- Collaborative planning session to develop a clear, actionable plan for implementing the day’s learnings in your own context.
